E-BIKE The Mystical Forest of San Cerbone
Scorching heat? We're pedaling in the cool!
Description of the route
We'll climb along a scenic road that will allow us to leave the sunny south coast behind us and immerse ourselves in the cool Marciana forest on the north side of the island. We'll pass through the hilltop village of Poggio and continue climbing until we reach the evocative hermitage of San Cerbone, bishop of Populonia who fled the Vandals in 569 and was canonized. Here, you'll be enchanted by the island's oldest place of worship, surrounded by centuries-old chestnut trees and a deafening silence. We'll catch our breath to reach our peak at the foot of Monte Capanne and descend back to the valley through the village of Marciana with its imposing Fortezza Pisana. The arduous climb on technical and fun trails will allow us to enjoy breathtaking views and allow ourselves a more relaxed pace on our return. Duration: HALF DAY Length: 30 km Elevation gain: 870 m Difficulty level: Intermediate/advanced
