TREK Walking on the Granite Roads
A Journey Through Roman Times
Description of the route
From the hilltop village of San Piero, built entirely of granite and overlooking the Gulf of Marina di Campo, we'll begin our journey, gradually immersing ourselves in the most authentic nature of Elba Island. Green garrigue, white granite, and an immense sea will accompany us along our circular route, amidst the scents of cistus, broom, lavender, and rosemary. We'll walk along the slopes of Monte Capanne (1,019 m), the island's highest peak, whose granite has been exploited since Roman times. Along the trail, we'll encounter numerous relics of the past, silent signs of the ancient civilizations that inhabited these places. Among ancient terraces supported by dry stone walls, once used for growing vines, and slabs of rock, we'll enjoy our lunch break overlooking the sea. From here, the view opens onto a broad and evocative horizon, allowing us to admire the islands of Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio, and Corsica. Along the way, we'll also encounter the goats of Daniele, one of the few young shepherds on Elba who, with passion and determination, continues this ancient tradition. By letting him know in advance, you can taste his fresh, natural, and authentic cheeses, produced with full respect for animal welfare. An excursion that combines history, nature, and traditions, allowing you to experience Elba as a true journey through time.
